MY VIRTUAL CHILD

CAIDEN APOLLO AT 17 YEARS OLD

1. Caiden Apollo is spending more time after school hanging out with friends and seems to be dipping in his motivation for schoolwork. Senioritis has struck, you think. Your response is to:

Put very little direct pressure on Caiden Apollo, because you figure it will just lead to rebelliousness. Instead, you suggest that he come up with some school assignments that would really interest him and ask one of the teachers if she or he will support it, or that he find a new extra-curricular activity and drop one of the old ones.

  •         Yes, because I don’t want Caiden to be pressured because of me and my expectations and I know that if I do, he will find a way to make things flow on his will even if it’s not on my favor so I suggest alternative ideas for him to recover and make use of his determination to be a successful student.

Caiden Apollo has a couple of good friends and hangs out primarily with them, but he isn't one of the most outgoing and popular seniors at school. You pretty much leave decisions about friendships and relationships up to Caiden Apollo. You listen when he wants to talk and you make suggestions, but don't try to push him to make any big changes.

Caiden Apollo received his test scores on the ACT and SAT. He scored in the average range on the verbal subtests and in the average range on the math/science subtests. He is disappointed in these scores. You praise Caiden Apollo for doing his best on the tests. You discuss alternatives to 4-year colleges with him, such as community college and vocational training.

Caiden Apollo signed up for a Psychology class the first semester of his senior year. He really enjoyed the class, and your relationship with him has actually improved! You don't know if this is due to the class (in which case you want to thank the instructor!) or just a part of Caiden Apollo's normal growth in the senior year. However, you notice that Caiden Apollo is still not very outgoing with other students or adults.

Caiden Apollo and a few friends decided to participate in the senior variety show. You are not surprised that Caiden Apollo takes somewhat of a backstage role (creative director).

High school is over. Because of his grades and verbal SAT test score, Caiden Apollo did not get into any of his preferred 4-year schools. He plans to attend a community college and then transfer to a 4-year university. He will work part-time, live at home and attend the local community college.
